Posted on February 7th, 2019   Categories Charity, Gladwells Pet & Country Stores

December 2019

Over the Christmas period our Gladwells Pet & Country Stores’ opening times are changing.

Our stores in Stowmarket, Bury St Edmunds, Rushden, Peterborough, Rayleigh, Sandwich, Faversham and Margate have the following opening times…

Our Copdock store will have slightly different opening hours which can be seen below…

We wish all of our customers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Fishing Line Recycling Scheme at GP&CS Copdock

This year we signed up Gladwells Pet and Country Store Copdock with the Anglers National Line Recycling Scheme. This means we are a registered location for used line to be dropped off and recycled by the charity.

If this proves successful it may be introduced to our other Gladwells Pet and Country Stores this year.

You can find out more about the charity here: https://www.anglers-nlrs.co.uk/

Christmas Charity Fundraising

In December 2019 we raised £174.20 for Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity Children’s Appeal.

This was through a Christmas meat raffle organised at head office and Christmas Jumper Day which was open to all GP&CS branches.

We also donated a box of gifts to the charity for patients that would be in hospital over Christmas. This was to support the charity’s Giving Tree Appeal.

November 2019

£210 raised for MIND

This quarter we are supporting the MIND charity – for better mental health.

“Every year, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem. But hundreds of thousands of people are still struggling. We believe no-one should have to face a mental health problem alone. We’ll listen, give you support and advice, and fight your corner”. – MIND

Our Copdock Mill head office site held a breakfast morning in November to raise funds for the charity. Staff from all departments came together for bacon rolls, sausage sarnies and hot coffee.

together we raised £210.04!

More fundraising will continue through to the end of 2019 to build on this total. Our Gladwells Pet & Country Stores are taking donations in store until the end of December. See some pictures taken from the breakfast morning.

Copdock Mill has raised £1093.80 for the St Elizabeth Hospice charity!

Throughout the quarter running from April – June 2019 we have been supporting the Hospice. Our fundraising activities included taking part in the Midnight Walk and collecting donations in our Gladwells Pet & Country Stores.

Gladwells also sponsored the charity’s Sunflower Memories event. Our Marketing team attended and sold sunflower seeds in exchange for donations.

Larger bespoke packs were available to buy in our three Suffolk stores from which £1 was donated to the charity.

We would like to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone that supported our fundraising efforts. It is thanks to you that Copdock Mill has been able to donate such a great amount to St Elizabeth Hospice.

£644 Raised for East Anglian Air Ambulance Charity

Last month our Gladwells Pet & Country Store in Copdock opened their car park to people attending the Ed Sheeran concerts in Ipswich. Parking spaces were available in exchange for a donation to the East Anglian Air Ambulance Charity.

We are happy to say that an amazing £644 was raised for the charity!

The event was organised by the Chairman of Copdock Mill, Mark Gladwell and his Grandson Harvey Gladwell. (In association with the Ipswich Rotary Club).

After the weekend of concerts, the team received a number of emails complimenting their efforts:

Thank you for the parking. Went really smoothly. Parking easy to find, staff very helpful, walk was nice and well lighted on the way back in the dark. Perfect choice for us coming from Colchester.”

“Hi, just to day a big ‘thank you’ to you and your team for offering the parking facility last night. We really appreciated it and hope that lots of money was raised. It was such a great initiative and really helped us. Thank you!”

“Thank you for the use of the car park and all your efficient planning prior to today. Travel to and from home was straightforward and an easy walk. I hope you raised a good sum the East Anglian Air Ambulance.”

“Just a note to say thank you for allowing us to park in your car park, and for all the helpful information you provided. It all worked really well and took the stress out of worrying about parking, and it was a great idea to raise funds for the Air Ambulance. We had a fab time at the concert and wanted to pass our thanks onto you and the volunteers who assisted with parking at your premises.”

We would like to Thank everyone who donated to park at the shop and hope you all enjoyed the very sunny day and concert on the Bank Holiday weekend.

“East Anglian Air Ambulance exists to save lives by delivering highly skilled doctors and critical care paramedics by air or car to seriously ill or injured people in the region. We are a life-saving charity that is only kept airborne thanks to our incredible supporters. Thank you”.

Castle Hill Primary School Donation

The Gladwells Pet and Country Store branch in Copdock has donated a selection of chicken feeds and treats to Castle Hill Primary School after a break in at the school. The primary school’s chicken coop was broken into during January 2019 which led to two chickens disappearing and two dying, leaving three behind at the school.

The East Anglian Daily Times reported the following:

“CCTV captured footage of teenagers breaking into sheds on the premises of Castle Hill Primary School, in Dryden Road, Ipswich and releasing the schools’ chickens.

When a caretaker came to check on the birds the following morning, he found that two were missing, two were dead and three were alive – though one also has an injury on its back.

Their deaths have left the school’s community heartbroken, with headteacher Gemma Andrews describing what happened as very distressing in a letter to parents.”

With the Gladwells store wanting to contribute with the rest of the local community, store manager Darrel (seen below) delivered the feed, treats and supplies to the school and children. Darrel mentioned to the school how impressed he was with the pupils who accepted the donations adding they were a credit to the school.
